The "DONOR & VIP DINNER" for 2016 recognized CTYE's Volunteer and Donors of the Year.  The event was held at the Cornerstone Cottage on Bardstown Road, and it was a fabulous venue with excellent food and service.  

2016 Proved to be a year of firsts as well as a year that solidified programs and built long lasting relationships with an amazing group of kids.  This year's Volunteer of The Year was Ms. Pashens Fitzpatrick for her unwaivering dedication and support to the CTYE mission.  Our Donors of The Year were none other than Mr. Virgil and Mrs. Donna Fitzpatrick for their invaluable genoerosity and commitment to CTYE.  The support and dedication shown in 2016 has been indescribable and we are so thankful and excited for what 2017 holds!

Vanessa Anderson, CTYE's President and Founder, shared how CTYE was created and where CTYE is headed.  We are moving into 2017 with big plans for our Pop-Up Parent/Teacher Community Engagement Series starting in January.  Our Young Men's group ONYX will begin meeting the 2nd Saturday of each month in January 2017 for the first time from 12:30-2:30pm at 332 West Broadway, The Heyburn Building in Suite 614 and we are looking for Volunteers to help build this program.  Our biggest goal for 2017 is getting 25 Families enrolled into our Filling In the Gaps (FIG) program for the 2017-18 school year.  And in late 2017 we are launching our 2nd Time Around program for Grandparents who need some assistance navigating the new technological changes that have occured in the JCPS system that they may not be familiar with and we are excited to offer four weeks of training and education to assist. 

Our newest board member, Patricia Cameron, gave her testimony on why she is proud to serve the youth of Louisville and why it is so important to invest in the lives of our youth.

The Girls Empowered Making Strides (G.E.M.S.) girl's youth group met on November 26th to continue exploring the gemstone that represents them.  They evaluated the characteristics of different gemstones and the qualities that make them unique.  Some girls found that the gemstone they chose sometimes get nicked and scratch, but through polishing and cutting the stones can be restored to their original beauty. 

We will be meeting again on December 17th due to the holiday versus our standard 4th Saturday of the month.  If you would like to join us just give us a call at 502-694-CTYE (2893)!!!

Hey Ladies, our next GEMS meeting will be 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Nov. 26th, the Saturday after Thanksgiving! Feel free to invite some friends, the more the merrier.  Let us know if you plan to be there by post in this blog, only your first name and last name initial and write "will be there".

Our topic for November will be Positive Thinking, so don't miss it!

​Research gems. Find one that best fits you. Think about its color, shape, the way its made, what it is made of, how it is used, etc. Find your signature gem!Do not go with something easy asuch as your birthstone or diamond. We really want you to think deep about this assignment. Return in November with a picture of this gem. Create a diagram that demonstrates its similarities to you.  If you have question feel free to call us!

At our first meeting we discussed what gems where and how they be compared to you as a young lady.  Below are the questions we discussed:
​1.To be a gem, a mineral must be what?
2.What do those word mean?
3.Think about those three things, do you think that is what makes you a gem?
Do you think you are a gem?
4.Now lets think about the word adornment, what does that mean?
5.In what ways can you be considered adornment? Maybe think deeper.  
I hope you took notes ladies because we just might revisit these questions and something special might be headed your way (If you get them right of course).

Thanks to our generous community CTYE was able to raise over $1,200 dollars during our first Yard Sale fundraiser that was supported through donations from our supporters.  This was a huge success and we look forward to future fundraising adventures that will support the funding of our Filling in the GAPs and Summer Reading programs.
